Context
B2B counterparties that don't know each other still need to move money. The usual options are a custodial intermediary that holds funds, or trust. Coverant removes the intermediary from custody while keeping the guarantees.
Problem
Escrow logic on-chain is easy to write and hard to make safe. Funds must be releasable, refundable and recoverable without any operator ever taking custody, across chains with different execution and token semantics.
Architecture
- Factory pattern deploying lightweight proxies per escrow agreement.
- Configurable service fees resolved at settlement rather than deposit.
- Inactivity-based release and automated abortion logic as a liveness fallback.
- Off-chain indexer listening to contract events, synchronizing state into PostgreSQL through Prisma.
- Cryptographic signature verification for wallet linking between account and on-chain identity.
What I built
- Solidity escrow contracts for EVM chains (Ethereum, Base, Avalanche) and TRON.
- Reentrancy protection and SafeERC20 handling for stablecoin flows (USDT).
- Multi-signature release flows for higher-value agreements.
- Blockchain event monitoring service and state synchronization layer.
- Application layer for agreement creation, tracking and settlement.
Technology
Hard parts
- Keeping a single behavioural model across EVM and TRON without forking the product logic.
- Designing fee configuration that cannot be weaponized against either party.
- Handling silent counterparties without giving an operator custody or unilateral control.
Outcome
A working non-custodial escrow stack with contract, indexing and application layers in place, currently being extended toward wider B2B use.
