Context
PicsArt is a consumer creative platform with a web editor used by a general audience, not a technical one. Work on that surface is judged by whether the interaction feels immediate on hardware nobody controls.
Problem
A consumer editor has to stay fast and predictable while every asset in it is variable — stickers, shapes and text arrive in multiple weights, fills and font treatments, and each variation has to render correctly without a designer in the loop.
Architecture
- React and TypeScript across the main web editor surface.
- Adobe scripting to drive SVG integration, so asset variations were generated rather than hand-maintained.
- Unit and integration tests as the guard on editor behaviour, where a regression is visible to the user immediately.
What I built
- Functional, performant and scalable features for the main web editor, focused on the smoothness of the editing experience.
- Extendable, reusable components written to survive a fast-moving consumer product.
- Adobe script work handling SVG integrations — asset variations and font customisations across the editor's library.
- Unit and integration test coverage protecting application integrity and performance.
Technology
Hard parts
- Consumer editors are judged on feel. Latency you would never notice in a dashboard is obvious when someone is dragging a sticker.
- Keeping one asset correct across every variation and font treatment the editor could apply to it, without maintaining each by hand.
Outcome
A faster, better-tested main editor surface, with SVG asset variations and font customisations produced through scripting instead of manual upkeep.
